Electric
Overview
- Utah has no plans to introduce electric restructuring, either through legislation or
regulatory processes. Legislation enacted in 1997 created the Electrical
Deregulation and Customer Choice Task Force, which issued a report in November 1998,
recommending a go-slow approach and further study of restructuring issues. The 2000
legislature reauthorized the task force and required it to prepared retail choice
legislation for consideration in the 2001 session.
- In March 2001, the Governor signed HB 244, abolishing the customer choice task force and
establishing an energy policy task force to study Utah's energy needs.
Natural Gas
Overview
- No retail unbundling program is being considered at this time by either the Utah
Division of Public Utilities or the state legislature. Only industrial customers have the
ability to select their natural gas suppliers.
