Electric
Overview

  • July 2001: the Louisiana Public Service Commission ruled that retail access is not in the public interest at this time for all customer classes, although certain large industrial customers may be given the option to select retail access. The report recommends another study due in 2005 to determine if competition would benefit all classes of customers.
  • February 2003: the Louisiana Public Service Commission (PSC) released a report on electric retail access saying that restructuring efforts and experiences nationwide during 2002 "validates the Staff and Commission's slow and cautious approach to retail access."

Natural Gas
Overview

  • The state has no unbundled services for residential customers. No retail unbundling program is being considered at this time by either the Louisiana Public Service Commission or the state legislature. Only large industrial customers can purchase natural gas from nonutility suppliers.
