Electric
Overview
- In 1999, the Iowa Utilities Board initiated a small pilot electricity-choice program,
which garnered little interest from either consumers or suppliers. Electrical
restructuring was considered and then dropped in Iowa's General Assembly. No restructuring
legislation was considered in the 2001 session. The IUB closed its docket on electric
restructuring on April 17, 2001.
Natural Gas
Overview
- The state has no unbundled services for residential customers but is considering action.
The Iowa Utility Board is currently implementing rules to certify competitive natural gas
providers and reviewing draft tariffs filed by the rate-regulated providers. Its objective
is to extend possible provider choices to small-volume customers, as has been available
for many years to large-volume natural gas customers.
